You can export your iPhone contacts to backup or import them into another program. This article will show you the easiest way to do this.
Export iPhone contacts via iCloud
If you want to export your iPhone contacts, you can use iCloud for that. Once registered, you can download your contacts as a so-called “vCard.” This is a uniform standard for exchanging connections between programs.
- Go to icloud.com and log in with your credentials.
- Select “Contacts” in the overview.
- Now click on the first contact in the list and then the key combination “CMD” + “A” (Mac) or “Ctrl” + “A” (Windows) to select all contacts in the list.
- Now tap the gear icon in the bottom left and “Export vCard…”.
A so-called vcf file is then created that contains all your contacts. You can then, e.g., B. back up to an external hard drive.

The “vcf” format is the standard for exporting and importing contacts. You can export your iPhone contacts, e.g., B. Import into Outlook.
Export iPhone Contacts to Mac
An alternative way takes you through the Mac. You can also export all your iPhone contacts there. And it goes like this:
- Open the Contacts app on your Mac.
- You can now select one or more contacts from the list. To select all contacts at once, you can press the key combination “CMD” + “A” (Mac) or “Ctrl” + “A” (Windows).
- Now go to “Shelf” at the top of the screen, then to “Export” and then to “Export vCard….”
- Now a vCard in “.vcf” format is also created.
Use third-party apps to export.
Another way leads you through third-party apps and can be interesting for you if you z. B. does not use Apple’s iCloud. These apps can also easily export contacts stored locally on your iPhone. Numerous apps offer it for free.
- Install one of these apps, e.g., B. “EasyBackup.”
- Open the app and select “Get Started.”
- Now click on “Access Contacts” to give the app access to your contacts. Confirm it with “OK.”
- This is necessary to be able to export them.
- If you want to back up your contacts, click “Tap to Backup.”
You can now email yourself a vCard by clicking “Send to Email.” Alternatively, click “Export Backup” to send them via another app or “Save to Files” to save them on your iPhone.
